  • An introduction to Information Technology.

  • Knowledge and skills learnt in this unit will be applicable to Year 11 Information Technology as well as relevant to the 21st century workplace. It will also allow those students with an interest in games and game development to participate in an online role-playing environment, as students enrolled in this unit will be expected to participate in Skoolaborate, an exciting new project for the College in 2009. Skoolaborate is a highly secure, closely monitored part of the teen Second Life virtual world where students from 40 schools around the world are collaborating to share cultural and social knowledge, and to develop solutions to global problems. Students develop and control their own avatar, take responsibility for their online behaviour, and learn to communicate with others and create objects ranging from clothes to buildings to drivable cars.
  • Unit 1: looks at problem-solving, data management and issues with ICT.
Unit 2: looks at programming and scripting, career opportunities and pathways, networks and ICT techniques.
  • Unit 3 focuses on how individuals or organisations use ICT to solve information problems and to participate actively in a society where use of ICT is commonplace.
For Outcome 1 of this unit, students must use database management software to solve information problems, and for Outcome 2, students use web authoring software to create prototypes of websites.

Unit 4 focuses on how ICT is used by organisations to solve ongoing information problems and in the strategies to protect the integrity of data and security of information.
Students are required to use two types of software for Outcome 1: spreadsheet and web authoring or
    multimedia authoring.
